Terms of use and engagement

The terms that cover this website, and the headline terms of how we take work on. The document that actually governs your engagement is the engagement letter we issue before any work starts.

Who you are dealing with

Tickdoc Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 09237448, incorporated on 26 September 2014 and trading from Eastleigh, Hampshire SO50 6JJ. Contact: info@tickdoc.co.uk or 07481 700044.

Using this website

The content here is general information about bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, accounts and tax. It is not advice for your circumstances, and it should not be acted on as though it were. Figures are checked against primary sources and dated, and the editorial standards page explains how. Even so, tax turns on detail, and a page cannot know yours.

Quotes and engagement

We quote after understanding what the work actually involves, because a set of books two years behind is not the same job as one that is up to date. A quote is not a contract: work begins once we have issued a proposal, you have accepted it, and we have completed the engagement letter and the anti-money-laundering checks we are legally required to carry out.

Where you are moving from another accountant, we also obtain professional clearance and the handover records before taking over.

What we will not take on

We turn work down, and we would rather say so here than at the point of billing. We will not treat personal expenditure as tax-deductible business expenditure where there is no proper basis for doing so. We do not take on audit work, complex specialist taxation, or work that is closer to a personal assistant than to an accountant. Where a job is not right for us we say so and, where we can, point you at somebody it suits.

Your part

The timescales we quote assume records arrive complete and questions get answered. A straightforward VAT return takes three to five working days when the bookkeeping is up to date; it takes longer when it is not. Responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information you give us stays with you, and filing deadlines are ultimately yours as director or as an individual taxpayer, even where we file on your behalf.

Fees

Fees are agreed in writing before work starts and set out in the engagement letter. Work outside that scope is quoted separately before it is done rather than appearing on an invoice afterwards.

Liability and insurance

We carry professional indemnity insurance through Simply Business. Our liability for any engagement is limited as set out in the engagement letter for that engagement. Nothing in these terms limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited, including fraud.

Ending the arrangement

Either of us can end the arrangement in writing. We will complete work in progress, invoice for what has been done, and hand over your records and provide professional clearance to an incoming accountant promptly. Your records are yours.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
